Yet another clinic, yet another hot summer day, yet another coffee shop.
If you know me in real life, you know that I spend half my life in clinics and hospitals. If you don’t know me in real life, now you know that I spend half my life in clinics and hospitals. These things come in clusters, at times, and I’m facing that with summer with scheduled GI, ENT, Neurology, Neurosurgeon, and GP appointments for a number of things. I had a brain MRI last week (not my first). Today is U of M/Fairview to a gastroenterologist for a new diagnosis of my esophagus.
Just another day.
But, the good thing about appointments in the city is that we get to spend some time in cool coffee shops and restaurants, and interesting thrift stores and parks. We LOVE Minneapolis and St. Paul (they are very different in some ways, both awesome).
At the moment, I’m in a charming new-to-me coffeehouse on the U of M campus, called Bordertown Coffee, which happens to be in an old turn-of-the-last-century home that became a Theta Chi frat house in 1928, and is now converted into a coffee house (and possibly apartments upstairs?).
The building is a lovely old brick and stucco house that is literally engulfed in ivy–a point which will become important. It has several comfortable rooms with various types of furniture (short tables, tall tables, library chairs, couches…all in browns to complement the real wood wainscoting and fireplace enclosure and built-in bookshelves). This is like my dream library.
And all the windows are covered, or mostly covered, in ivy or tree leaves.
I’m looking forward to the after-appointment fun today, preferably in A/C from here on out. Maybe my health weirdness will get some answers today, likely not, but that’s okay. I’m quite used to this. There are far worse things.
For today, both the heat and the health are a little unpleasant, but definitely manageable. And kind of ivy-covered.
